Toronto Committees

Why volunteer to lead a committee?

  • Broaden your professional network.

  • Know ‘who to ask’ if you have questions or wish to seek advice on key industry issues.

  • Hone your organizational and leadership skills.

  • Meet and get to really know 8-10 people on your committee. Make friends.

  • Demonstrate to your peers your special skills and capabilities, so they are inclined to refer work to you, should the opportunity arise.

  • Increase your visibility in the industry.

  • Demonstrate your leadership skills to your boss.

  • Be inspired by the accomplishments of other women.

  • Learn new skills in a non-threatening environment, with a team that will ensure you succeed.

  • To have a sense of belonging in the real estate community.

  • Give back to the great industry that has given so much to you.

  • Opportunity to prove your commitment within the organization.  Being a Chair or Vice Chair at Toronto CREW is a stepping stone to the Board of Directors. Not only is it great for your résumé, but it will give you board experience so that you can transition to board work in various industries.

  • Learn about different facets of the commercial real estate industry.

  • Be recognized for your contributions by your peers.

  • Personal and professional growth.

  • Associate with people who are like you – balancing a demanding career, family, and self.

  • It’s fun!

How to become a committee leader?

Committees are managed by a leadership team consisting of Chairs and Vice Chairs. Committee Leadership positions typically last for a two-year term, and the turnover dates fall at various times throughout the year, depending on the needs of the portfolio. The Call for Nominations for these positions is issued appropriately.

Chapter policy for managing nominations for Toronto CREW leadership positions permits members to nominate themselves or others to an independent Nominating Committee. This ensures an unbiased review of all candidates and aims to encourage broad interest from the general membership.

The Nominating Committee will review the qualification of each applicant and nominee, will determine the level of interest to serve, and may request further information about the applicant’s and/or nominee’s qualifications and experience, both in writing and through personal interviews, may solicit comments from members on all applicants and/or nominees, and will make recommendations to the Board of Directors for each open Leadership position.

The Nominating Committee will consider in particular those who have demonstrated their interest in serving in a Leadership role and have an understanding of the goals and purposes of Toronto CREW, which is typically gained from working on committees, or having been a Chair, a Vice-Chair or a Director, or in a professional position which provides qualifications for a particular role.
